You're engaged. Congratulations! Now what?

Written in 2011, "Have a Wedding for $1000" is a short, amusingly candid and clever approach to wedding planning. "Have a Wedding for $1,000" breaks planning a down to the basics. The VERY basics. There are only five basic things you need to do to plan a wedding Pick a Date, Invite People, Get Hitched, Provide Refreshments and Celebrate! You can do all of these things on a budget, but some additional details would be helpful.

A second version of "Have a Wedding for $1000" is nearly done and ready to be published in the next few months. The new version is all about having many tangible ways to save money on your wedding, rather than large ideas. If you're interested in being notified when it is released, visit www.weddingfor1000.com/sign-up-form/ to join the mailing list.

First of all, this short guide is undoubtedly worth the $2, because it will save you at least that much in your wedding planning. (I'll venture a guess that you'll get your investment back a thousandfold, but I suppose that depends on what advice you choose to take and what you went in knowing already.)

But this is really about more than the money. It's a gentle reminder that the purpose of having a wedding is not to show off, to have everything match, or to throw the biggest party of your lives. The point is to celebrate your union and declare your commitment. The book's mantra is that "the wedding is not important." It's more for your family and friends than for you, and you'll enjoy it much more if you share it only with the most important people in your lives.

The main cost-saving measure, after cutting down your guest list, is avoiding a sit-down dinner. There isn't a clear outline for making the wedding cost no more than $1000 - that's almost impossible without finding free venues for the reception and ceremony - but you're advised to set a budget, based on what elements matter the most.

If a big, traditional wedding is all you've ever wanted (one that costs you an arm and a leg, probably, too), I recommend reading I Do But I Don't: Why the Way We Marry Matters, which chronicles the evolution of wedding traditions and the problems they can cause for modern brides. Have a Wedding for $1 000 edition by Maigen Thomas Crafts Hobbies Home eBooks Reviews

This little book should be in every bride's library. It provides that all too needed reality check of what's important. Well done and to the point.
If you only need vague ideas or suggestions this is the book for you. Your wedding and reception may be rather memorable for all the wrong reasons though. Cheap will be the theme. When you have a small budget to work with, your best rule of thumb should be to keep the wedding party and guest list small.
This book has some nice perspectives and can help calm nervous brides with smaller budgets. While I do think it downplays the importance of the wedding to the bride; it does have common sense tips to help chisel out her priorities for her day.
This is an awesome read that really opens up your mind to the idea of non traditional and traditional weddings. It should be YOUR tradition, something you would love to look back on in the future! It really makes your realize you can have a gorgeous wedding on a smaller budget. I love the ideas it gave and the perspective it puts on heavy planning. I highly recommend!
Good informatoin
I read this expecting to learn something new about how to save money, but it turns out that my fiance and I have already planned to embrace these alternatives for our upcoming wedding. The advice is good, but I personally didn't learn any new tips. It did help solidify in my mind that we are on the right path, and I am certain it would be a good resource for couples who don't know where to begin as far as budgeting is concerned, especially if they are traditional and have trouble thinking out of the box.
The e-book was very, very short, and mainly consisted of a lot of common sense and/or very vague suggestions. It can basically be summed up as
Borrow whatever you can instead of buying.
Go without things that aren't that important (such as floral centerpieces.)
Minimize your guest list (duh.)
And constant reiteration that it's just one day and not worth spending a fortune on, because the marriage is more important than the wedding. (Yes, thanks, I know. I think anyone seeking out literature on how to throw a cheap wedding is already of that opinion.)

It was only $1.99, but I'd still have to say not worth the money. (
